Winter Skincare Favorites
I don't know about you readers, but this time of year is awful for me when it comes to my skin. Most importantly, keeping my skin looking glowy and rejuvenated when this weather in West Virginia wants to make my skin dry and dull. I always struggle with keeping my face a. moisturized and b. acne free. I have a few items that I have been using that has been a serious game changer for my face. The best part about it is you can purchase any of these items for under $20!
It's very important to keep your skin in check. Keeping a healthy face will only freshen your face, but also help with aging as well. Your skin constantly sheds dead skin cells, and without proper care can lead to different skin issues that could affect the tone and overall look of your face everyday!
First Step: Cleansing
Cleaning your face is so important! With us makeup wearers, if you don't completely remove all your makeup and it remains on your face, that can cause clogging of your pores which then lead to breakouts. :(
When I come home, I first use these Simple cleansing wipes. For starters, I love the fact that it is designed for sensitive skin. Unfortunately, I have very sensitive skin. Certain face washes, makeup wipes, and moisturizers will break me out in a heartbeat. With that being said, not gonna lie I was a little nervous to try these wipes. Although it says "sensitive skin" sometimes it doesn't always mean its gentle on the skin. I was pleasantly surprised when I started using these I had no breakouts, and they were still getting the job done of removing any stitch of makeup on my face. These wipes have ridges on one side, to kind give you an "exfoliating" feel without any harsh chemicals or exfoliating beads in the formula. After I remove my makeup, I just use a generic bar soap or face wash to remove the rest of my makeup, and to give my face that super clean feeling! You can purchase these at any Ulta Beauty store. For one pack of 25 wipes usually runs about $5.00, or you can buy in bulk for 50 wipes for $9.00.
Step Two: Spot Control
Now we all know we have those times of the month where a stubborn blemish will come up! Whether it be hormonal, or if your pores have access dirt we are bound to have a break out every once in awhile. Since my skin is always breaking out, I have found the absolute best solution is pure tea tree oil. I have tried everything in the books to try and keep control of my acne; face washes, ProActive, Epiduo, the works, and nothing has worked quite like this has. I did a lot of research on using tea tree oil for acne before I started using it, since I had never tried it before. Turns out, tea tree oil actually has bacteria fighting properties, which in a case where your acne is due to dirt or bacteria in the pore it will help kill that bacteria and heal properly. It will also help prevent future bacteria from entering the pore, which will keep the face looking flawless. It's really great because not only can you use this oil as just a spot treatment, but you can also put a drop or two in a moisturizer, a face wash, or even masks you may put on your face. Usually when applying, I put it straight on the face with a q-tip or cotton ball. If it is your first time trying, I would recommend diluting it with a little water so it isn't harsh or cause stinging. Now I purchased the Paul Mitchell tea tree oil, but also Ulta Beauty sells The Body Shop tea tree oil as well, and it is about $10.00 a bottle!
Step Three: Moisturizing
This step is super important! Moisturizing your face is going to keep your skin glowing, but also in this weather it will help with keeping a dry face feel smooth and flake free. I have a combination skin type, so certain parts of my face will be drier than others. Mostly my nose and chin, and sometimes right above my eyebrows. When it comes to moisturizers, I am very picky. I don't really care for those that leave your face feeling heavy, nor do I care for ones that once your skin has absorbed it leaves your face with almost a shiny look and may leave your skin looked greasy or oily. This Neutrogena HydroBoost gel cream has definitely hit all the pros on my list in a perfect moisturizer. With it being a cream gel, it has a very smooth and light weight consistency so it doesn't feel heavy on my skin. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in skin. Once applied, it immediately absorbs into my skin and I can run my hands over my face with out feeling like my fingers are going to get stuck mid graze. It's nice because a little will go a long way with this product, so the tub can last a long time. You can find this product at Ulta Beauty (can you see a pattern here? ) for about $20.00.
Masks! These are my favorite in case you all couldn't tell. It's nice to to put a mask on your face, climb into bed and relax and all the while improving your face in some way! This Loreal Paris Detox and Brightening clay mask is one of my favorites. I don't know if any of you have heard of the super expensive Glam Glow face masks, but this mask does the EXACT same thing but you pay a fraction of the price. You just apply to your face, let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, and rinse off! As the mask works, you'll see it start to dry and where it is extracting the dirt or "detoxifying" there are small spots in certain areas. Once you rinse, it leaves your face feeling so refreshed, and helps brighten your skin tone! Also available at Ulta Beauty, this mask runs around $13.00. They also have a few others you can purchase such as the Exfoliate and Refine, and the Purify and Magnify clay masks also by Loreal Paris.
